Description
Relates the events that occurred on the monastery grounds during King Phillip's War. After a fierce battle on March 26, 1676 in which 100 Indians and 70 colonists lost their lives, nine militiamen under the command of Michael Pierce escaped to what are now the monastery grounds. Marauding Indians pursued and slaughtered them. Only one lived to tell the tale. The first veterans' monument was erected at this site.
